Embracing Academic Challenges...

The Rascals write on slates to practice numeration skills.  I might say a number and ask them to write it.  I might ask them to add one more; one less, etc.  The questions progress in difficulty.

Do you believe we can build numbers
using 10's and one's?  Guess that number!

Look at us representing 10's and 1's
using unifix cubes.  During Workshop we
record said number in our workbooks.
Most of us have a good understanding of
place value...Be Proud, this is a difficult
                   concept!

Subtraction Stories
Mrs. Rich told an imaginative story of Dr. Seuss.  For example, Dr. Seuss invited 4 Rascals to his birthday party.  2 Rascals went home early.  How many Rascals were left at the party?  A stick was used to sweep 2 counters off to the side of the white board.  Then we counted how many were left.

The Rascals partnered-up, made up and shared
take-away stories.  Ask your smartie what s/he
           learned?

Volunteer help was welcomed as we worked
diligently to complete a 100 piece puzzle.  It was
a collaborative activity between the morning and
                  afternoon Rascals.

Be on the look-out for our Sight Word books?
We look for sight words in books and write them.
This activity helps us become better readers.

Did you get the word?  During our whole
                  group Literacy Lesson Rascal smarties
                  have been segmenting consonant-vowel-
consonant words.  Their ears are tuned in to
hearing each sound in a word.  YES, vowel
                  sounds,  too....IMPRESSIVE!
