Newsletter ~ March 14

Hello Rascal Families,

St. Patrick’s Day continues to be the talk in kindergarten.  Your child will have lots to share this Friday when you ask, “What did you do at school today?  (Since St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday our class will be celebrating on Friday….wear GREEN.)  Many descriptive words will be used to paint a picture in your minds of the green footprints galore on tables, white boards and the floor; in addition to furniture turned upside down.  It is a true story! This happens every year in Mrs. Rich’s classroom.  The Rascals have been building ingenious Leprechaun traps in the Block Center this week.  Their goal is to catch the Leprechaun.   St. Patty’s Day in our classroom is GOLDEN!  Stay tuned for Rascal photos and more news this weekend!!!

More adventures are in store for us next week.  We’re moving on to the last chapter in Unit 7 of the Imagine It Reading Series.  Introducing letter name/sound Vv along with reviewing the sounds of  Ww, Kk, Ee, Qq and Yy are in the plans for next week. Add two new sight words to your growing list:  was, were.  Thank you for practicing your sight words every night.  You’ve been working hard and it really shows!

It is that time of year…your child’s report card is going home on Wednesday, March 27th.  For the very first time in Kindergarten History kinders will be graded in the academic area.  WHOHOO!  All children have improved since the beginning days of school.  A celebration is in order.  Root!  Root!  Root for Rich’s Rascals!!!

                                                                                    Top of the Weekend!

Newsletter ~ March 7

Welcome Back, Rascal Families!

Hope you and the Rascals had a “FUN”tastic vacation!  Learning about Dr. Seuss has motivated us to “march” right back into the school setting.  “Seuss”y activities will dominate throughout the month. Ask us what we’ve been doing during workshop!  Look at the website www.seussville.com for great resources and games.

Math interest is at an all-time peak!!!!. The focus has been on 2 and 3-D shapes. Our goal is to be able to name and describe the following:  square, circle, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, cube, cone, cylinder and sphere.  Be on the look-out for the shape papers.
Click on the arrow below to watch the YouTube we’ve fallen in love with:  3-D Shapes I know!

Help your child pack a snack on Monday that is one of the shapes we’ve been studying.  Mrs. Pearl and I are going to play “Name That Shape”.  Be ready to challenge us!!!!!

More adventures are in store for us next week.   Do you believe we are on Unit 7 of the Imagine It! Reading Program.  The theme for this unit is Teamwork.  I can say with pride, the Rascals are one great team!

They have honed their social skills, developed perseverance and have learned the importance of working together.  Take a peek at our inquiry bulletin board.  Ask us what we wrote on our helping arm/hand.

Letter names/sounds in the March plans are short Ee (hen), Qq and Yy. Add two new sight words to your growing list: her, what .

March and April are roaring with exciting happenings…..Dr. Seuss activities, budding authors, amazing readers, award winning class books, report cards and the little GREEN THING!

Rumor has it that the little green thing will visit Rich’s Rascals on Friday, March 15th.   McRich and McPearl are ready for the green thing.  The students are, too!  Of course, everyone knows to wear green on Friday, the 15th of March!  What a whimsical month it will be!

Fond Memories of Special Visitors.......

Kelly comes back to Underhill to visit old friends...Old friends are golden!  She  spends the afternoon with Niece Arianna, the Rascals, Mrs. Pearl and Mrs. Rich.

Do you remember, Veteran Families?  Six years ago Miss Kelly Conomacos was my intern for the entire year.  Then she taught kindergarten at Underhill for one year and was promoted to teach first grade the following year.  Some of your children have had her as their teacher.  Oh, the fun we had!  She decided to move to California for the love of warmer weather.  Speaking of love...She's engaged to the man of her dreams, Josh.  See him among the Rascals.  Though they met in California, he was born and raised in Vermont.  My dream is that some day (in the near future) they make their home New Hampshire.

Guest Readers from Cawley visit our morning
class.  We were mesmerized by the stories they
read to us.  The Rascals are ready for a return
            visit!!!

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) students, Jenna, Kelly, Evelyn and Alysia work in our morning class.  They play "Oh, Rats" and other games to help us become better readers.

They help us with puzzles to foster growth in fine motor skills, spatial awareness and math skills.

Hurry back SNHU friends.  We love, Love, LOVE your
we                                       weekly visits!

Of course, Ted E. Jr. got all decked out for the party at Chuckey Cheese!  Makenzie's journal page tells a beautiful story of Ted E. and the Birthday Girl !!!!

Tea Party time for Ted E and Samantha!
Samantha set the table with the prettiest
table cloth and fancy china. Next time you
have a tea party will you invite Mrs. Pearl
                  and me?

What a special day for you and Ted E, Blake!
I think this was Ted E's first trip to the Book
Store.  Thank you so much for getting a book
for our class library.  You know it's one we
